About Us

Sep 9th, 2008 by admin

New!  Check out our Fall 2008 work on the multimedia news and video showcase pages!

Who We Are:

Global Students Online is a collaborative international network of faculty members and students involved in journalism, media studies, or media-making who utilize cross-cultural project-based learning in relation to learning goals.

What We Do:

We actively recruit potential collaborators from the around the world.  We then afford the online space for them to make their interests and ideas publicly available to other potential collaborators, and help them brainstorm on how and with whom they might work.  We provide examples of project-based learning experiences that participants have built in the past, and offer instruction on how to utilize our online platform for participatory learning projects.   We also offer a robust collection of research literature in support of cross-cultural participatory learning for those who want to build these experiences into their arguments for new course development, curricular restructuring, or the tenure and promotion review process.

In 2008, undergraduate students enrolled in a Journalism & New Media class at the University of Denver are working collaboratively with undergraduate students enrolled in a Media & Politics class at the University of Tehran to examine and create student-relevant coverage of the U.S. Presidential election.

In 2009-2010, we are also providing technological support to all participants throughout the semester or quarter in which they are collaborating.

What You Can Do:

If you are a faculty member or student interested in including a cross-cultural component in an upcoming course, or if you already have a cross-cultural component in your learning initiatives, please contact us.  We are always looking for models and collaborators.

We are also looking for support for our programs.  In particular, we are interested in building a robust translation tool to provide greater access to cross-cultural collaboration for communities in which English is a second (or third) language. Contact us for more information!
